So long as there's syllables
I started this Substack almost two years ago.
The goal was to write more, both as a means of therapy and to help me remember all the valuable things I’d learn along the way.
Valuable things I did learn, but never did I jot down. Life got in the way.
So when I made the decision to quit my job a few months back, I figured that would be my new catalyst for change. I had a few months to read, to write, to ponder by candlelight.
Or so I romanticised.
But as always, life got in the way.
I've come to realize that my expectations often surpass my current ability to deliver. Perhaps its best I temper that expectation. After all, some of us don’t aim for the mountain peak, but rather, the base camp.
My base camp is paved by hastily written Haikus.
Haikus typically have the following rules:
They must be composed of only 3 lines.
Every first line of Haiku has 5 syllables, the second line has 7 syllables, and the third has 5 syllables.
So long as I follow those rules, I have a Haiku. So long as I have a Haiku, I have technically written.
Some day I’ll write more than 17 syllables and it will come naturally.
Like today.
If you’d like to read some of my Haikus, come to my website. Or follow along as start using Twitter Substack Notes.
